MARK YOTHER
Cedar Rapids
Mark Yother, 74, of Cedar Rapids, longtime KCCK radio personality and program host, died Jan. 28, 2016, after a sudden illness. There will be a memorial service at Tommy's West Restaurant at a later date. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.
Mark is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Helen Yother in Bloomfield, Conn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mark was born in Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1941. Mark received his B.A. from Colorado State College, now the University of Northern Colorado, in 1963 and a master's degree in music education from Indiana University in 1966. He was a broadcaster for more than 40 years. Mark planned to be an elementary school music teacher but the U.S. Air Force sent him to Korea and made him a newscaster for the American Forces Network.
He came to Cedar Rapids in 1970 as an anchor and reporter for KCRG television. Mark began his career at KCCK as news director and later hosted a daily music show, as well as the movie review program, "Talking Pictures." He also did a humorous commentary,
"Got A Minute," which aired daily on KCCK for nearly 6,000 episodes.
He had a sharp and wicked sense of humor and knew more jokes than anyone could possibly imagine.
Donations in his name may be made to KCCK public radio.
