Mark James Meeks, 81, passed away Wednesday,
Oct. 5, 2016, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home
in West Branch. Visitation will from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established.
Mark was born July 6, 1935, in Indianola, Iowa, the son of Orval and Velma (Lemley) Meeks. Following the death of Velma, Orval married Agnes Droll and together they raised Mark. He was a graduate of Ainsworth High School in the Class of 1953. On Nov. 16, 1956, Mark was united in marriage to Kathleen "Katie" Polman in Iowa City. He had worked
in the automotive business for 20 years and the last 20 years at the West Branch School System as a janitor, retiring in 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Iowa City; four children, Doug (Carla) Meeks of West Branch, Molly Meeks of West Branch, Patty (Scott) Merritt of Iowa City and Marcy Hamer of West Branch; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Bob (JoAnn) Meeks of Runnells.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval, Velma and Agnes; son, Greg; and brothers, Cecil, Everett, Lee and Buel.
