Mark A. "Fuzzy" Fern, 64, of Farley, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at 10:15 p.m. at his home in Farley surrounded by his family after a seven-year battle with lung cancer.
Friends and relatives of Fuzzy may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Reiff Funeral Home in Farley, where a wake service will be at 1:30 p.m. Services for Fuzzy will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the funeral home, with Sister Benjamin Duschner presiding. A private burial will be held at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley.
Fuzzy was born Jan. 5, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Earl and Elizabeth (Fox) Fern. He received his education from St. Joseph Catholic School in Farley and graduated in 1970 from Western Dubuque High School in Epworth. On Nov. 24, 1973, he was united in marriage to Pam Schroeder at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Fern of Farley; two children, Ali (Aaron) Billmeyer of Greeley and Adam Fern of Farley; three grandchildren, Alex Fern and Erin and Landon Billmeyer; his father-in-law, Bill Schroeder of Farley; two brothers, Douglas (Janet) Fern of Dubuque and Jess Fern of Streator, Ill.; one sister, Peri (Jack) O'Connel of Bankston; and 13 brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jayne Fern, Randy (Annie) Schroeder, Sharon (Al) Grissanti, Bob Schroeder, Steve (Sharon) Schroeder, Mike (Linda) Schroeder, Mark (Linda) Schroeder, Nancy (Tom) Brown, Darla Hermsen, Pat (Ann) Schroeder, Tom (Janette) Schroeder, Brian Schroeder and Sam Schroeder.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tom Fern; two sisters, Erin Fern and Sue Ann Fern; his mother-in-law, Mary Schroeder; a brother-in-law, Mark Hermsen; and one nephew, John Fern.
The family would like to extend a thank-you to Tim from Hospice of Dubuque and Dr. Christine Holm of Medical Associates Oncology, Dr. Toby Campbell of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and all of Fuzzy's great friends for all the care and support given to Fuzzy during his battle with cancer.
