Mark A. Fitzgerald, 52, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, after a short illness. A celebration of life will be held at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, with Mass to follow.
Mark was born Sept. 21, 1964, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of the late Edward and Karen (Woodhouse) Fitzgerald of Dyersville. He was a 1983 graduate of Western Dubuque High School and later Kirkwood Community College.
A talented chef, entrepreneur and business manager, he owned or operated several small businesses and managed stores for Applebee's, the Ground Round and Baxter's in California. He was most recently employed by Wesco Aircraft in Cedar Rapids.
He is survived by his former wife, Patty (Romeo) Balvanz; their daughters, Jackie Messerly and Morgan Fitzgerald, of Cedar Rapids; one grandson, Grayson Moffit; and siblings, David (Shelley) Fitzgerald of Dubuque, Dan (Julie) Fitzgerald of Dyersville, Jason Fitzgerald of Portland, Ore., and Chad Fitzgerald of Minneapolis, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
