Mark Douglas Cook, 55, passed away Wednesday,
Nov. 7, 2018, at On with Life Long-Term Skilled Care in Glenwood, Iowa, where he had been a resident since 1997. Memorial services will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 17, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. A luncheon will be held at Don Bosco Hall of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Urbana following the memorial service. A memorial fund has been established.
Mark was born Sept. 22, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Jerry and Marcia (Boyles) Cook. He graduated from Urbana High School with the Class of 1982. Mark worked at Big Timber during high school and prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1982, where he was stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in Oak Harbor, Wash. Following his discharge in 1986, he was employed at Longview Fibre in Cedar Rapids.
He enjoyed his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and deer hunting.
In addition to his parents, Jerry and Marcia, he is survived by his brothers, Matthew (Jenny) Cook and James (Stephanie) Cook, all of Cedar Rapids; and his niece and nephews, Lindsey (Dane) Peterson, Zac Hornung and Zach Cook.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John "B.J." Cook on Sept. 3, 2018; his paternal grandparents, Ralph and Eva Cook; and his maternal grandparents, Howard and Geraldine Boyles.
