MARK ROBERT CONE
Cedar Rapids
Mark Robert Cone lost his courageous fight with cancer on Sept. 30, 2015, in his home in Hattiesburg, Miss., with his parents and devoted caretaker, Donna Brown, by his side.
Mark was born to Joe and Donita Cone on Dec. 14, 1970, in Grand Island, Neb.
He is survived by his parents; brother, Graig; nephew, Brody; and nieces, Sydney and Makenzie Cone. He was blessed with remarkable cousins, Debi Guzman Bowers, Kristi Guzman Mellon, Fred Behrle, Tim Eversoll, Suzie and Andy Martin, as well as Mike, Steve, Lisa, Scott and Jeff Baxter.
Mark moved to Cedar Rapids in 1973. He attended school at Pierce, Harding and graduated from Kennedy in 1989. He then attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a journalism degree from Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. While at the University of Iowa, he met and married Heather Norman. Though they divorced, they remained friends. Mark was a shareholder in the families business, Conveyor Engineering Co. of Cedar Rapids.
Mark loved his family and was always a very caring son, brother, uncle and cousin. His last months were highlighted with a Baxter-Cone family reunion, special visits in his Mississippi home from high school best friends, Derek Stepanek, Tal Knochenmus, Jeff Spencer and many calls from Marcus Weers along with visits from Graig, Brody and Sydney. He finished his bucket list with a visit in his home from his Green Bay Packer idol Brett Favre. Mark loved his Nebraska Huskers and Green Bay Packers. Mark was blessed in his last days to have phenomenal caretakers, Donna, Sandy, Rachel, Alice and Jadie.
A celebration of life gathering will be held in Cedar Rapids from 2 to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 at The Shrine Club, 905 Tower Terrace Rd., Hiawatha.
In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to Forest General Hospice House of Hattiesburg and Wounded Warriors.
