Mark 'Brogie' Broghammer
MARK "BROGIE" BROGHAMMER West Des Moines Mark "Brogie" L. Broghammer, 61, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 22, 2015, in his home in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Iles Dunn's Chapel, located at 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines, where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 7075 Ashworth Rd., West Des Moines. Mark was born May 12, 1954, in Cresco, Iowa, to Leonard and Margaret (Miskimins) Broghammer. He was a 1972 graduate of Crestwood High School and later earned his bachelor's degree from UNI. Mark began his successful career as a salesman alongside his dad, Leonard, at the ripe age of 10. He showed early promise helping to care for the bunnies at the insulation exhibit at the county fairs. Mark continued a long career in the home improvement industry, ultimately ending at a job he took great pride in at Hayfield Windows. Mark was politically active as a Republican Party delegate, volunteered in many organizations and was a man of great faith. He was an avid golfer, card player and photographer. Mark shared Terry Branstad's love of the great state of Iowa and all of the wonderful things within. He managed to live 90 years of life within his short 61 years, living a life of compassion, comradery, friendship, generosity, gratitude and love. Nothing overshadowed his great love of his family and friends. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his mother, Margaret; two sisters, Jane (Mike) Davis and Judy (Jim) Wengryn; brother, Mike Broghammer; and eight nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Broghammer. We will sorely miss our son, brother, friend and legendary "Uncle Mark". His life can be summarized in his own wise words, "it's a beautiful thing." An additional visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, located at 404 N. Elm St., Cresco, with a committal service and burial following at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco. Online condolences may be shared at www.IlesCares.com.
