Mark Charles Broghammer, 73, passed away peacefully on Jan. 20, 2018, in home hospice care, surrounded by immediate family.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Prairiewoods Spirituality Center in Hiawatha. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Surviving Mark are his loving wife of 47 years, Kathy Broghammer; and their two children, Tara Broghammer (daughter) and Mark Broghammer (son); two grandchildren, JJ and Owen; brothers, Dr. Ben Broghammer, Frank Broghammer and Dr. Bob Broghammer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
An animal lover, Mark trained and cared for his beloved dogs and fished, canoed and enjoyed cards with friends throughout his life. Mark enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and offered them sage advice mixed with humor in his final days, including, "Marry the right wife." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes and Kidney Fund of Unity Point.
