Mark Allen Kadlec, 70, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 9, 2024, at ABCM Rehabilitation Center of Independence. Visitation: 4 – 6 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2024, at the funeral home with a second visitation to begin one hour prior. Burial will follow the service at Rogers Grove Cemetery, Ely, Iowa.
Mark was born August 31, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Dorothy (Sopousek) Kadlec. He graduated from Prairie High School in the special education program. Mark worked as a janitor at Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids through the Options Program. He loved Fonzie and Hulk Hogan but John Wayne was his hero. As a child, Mark loved to watch Popeye. His favorite movie of all time was Wizard of Oz. He enjoyed cheering on Tony Stewart and listening to Elvis. Mark was fond of hot rods and was a fan of professional wrestling. Mark was an Iowa Hawkeye fan to his core. He was always enthusiastic about attending Camp Courageous and enjoyed his world travels with Discovery Living. Mark was dearly loved and will be forever missed.
Survivors include his siblings, Michael (Edna) Kadlec and Marcia (Gary) Britcher, all of Cedar Rapids; aunts, Teresa Sopousek, and Helen Barta; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-nieces and -nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Marylou (Roger) Pearson; paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mark’s nephew, Casey Pearson, and all of Mark’s “girlfriends” and buddies at ABCM Rehabilitation Center of Independence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous.
