Marjorie "Marge" Davis, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, at Meth-Wick Retirement Community.
Marjorie was the oldest of seven children born to Thaine and Martha Hogue of Eldora, Iowa. She grew up in several Iowa communities and graduated from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids. Marge graduated with a B.S. from Iowa State University in Dietetics and worked as a dietician as St. Luke’s Hospital before leaving the workforce to raise her two children.
Marjorie and her husband Gary met at Iowa State University and spent the remainder of their lives together in Cedar Rapids raising their family. They were long time members of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. Marge enjoyed canning and preserving foods, especially those grown in their home garden. She was an excellent cook and baker and often made clothes for the family when the children were young. Marge was a devoted wife and mother and found great joy in her two grandchildren.
Marge was predeceased by her husband, Gareth; and son, Phillip.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Davis; son-in-law, David Chu; and grandchildren, Charlotte and Callan.
A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 12, at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque. A Celebration of Life in Cedar Rapids will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, you are invited to leave a donation with United Women in Faith at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church (a Methodist Women’s organization supporting positive change around the world) or Foundation 2 Crisis Services (a human services agency supporting the mental health of the community).
