Marjorie Dutchik, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Meth-Wick Manor following a long illness. Friends may visit with the family at 2 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m.
Marjorie is survived by her husband, Raymond; daughter, Jennifer (Phillip) Trussell of Washington, D.C.; son, Bernard (Lisa) Dutchik of Iowa City; and four grandchildren, Rachael, Zoe, Gabby and Joshua.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Alice Perkins.
Marjorie was born June 18, 1928, in Winthrop, Mass., the daughter of Benjamin and Minnie Delong Oyler. Marjorie was a registered nurse and a captain in the U.S. Air Force. She married Raymond Dutchik on Feb. 22, 1962, at Goose Bay Air Force Base in Labrador, Canada.
Marjorie was a talented and published creative writer and taught classes at the Witwer Center. She had a true volunteer spirit, including Meals on Wheels, the support of art education in the schools and other community outreach efforts. She was known for her grace, wisdom and compassion for others.
Marjorie loved all living things. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Linn County Humane Society.
