Marjorie "Marge" Louise Burns, 88, of Strawberry Point died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Strawberry Point. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Masonville. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Strawberry Point. Friends may also call from 9:30 until services on Tuesday.
Marge was born June 9, 1926 on a small farm near Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Louise Heiserman. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1944. Marge worked at Rath Packing until she was united in marriage to Kenneth "Kenny" P. Burns on November 10, 1945 in Masonville.
Marge was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Strawberry Point. Marge and her husband of 58 years, Kenny, enjoyed dancing and playing cards. They both created countless special memories for their children and grandchildren over many years. Marge enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, shopping and most of all, as a devoted wife and mother, spending time with her family.
Marge is survived by her six daughters and three sons: Cathy (Gary) Franck of Center Point, Gene (Karen) Burns of Strawberry Point, Janet (Denny) Duncan of Mount Vernon, Nancy (Jim) Demel of San Antonio, Jim (Sheri) Burns of Winthrop, Elieen (Jim) Peschong of Lincoln, Margaret (Terry) Burns of Marion, Pat Burns of Lamont, and Elaine (Doug) Gustafson of Cedar Rapids; twenty two grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her three brothers: Robert, Virgil, Harold, her infant son: Gerald, and her grandson Brad Duncan.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful people at the Mercy Hospice House.
