Marjorie M. Bowers, 98, of Pleasant Valley, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at the Iowa Masonic Health facility in Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, Nov. 17, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be one hour before services Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Pleasant Valley, the LeClaire Community Library or King's Harvest Ministries in Davenport.
Marjorie was born April 15, 1918, near Dysart, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Anna (Nass) Bowers. She was the oldest of seven children. She attended rural school near La Porte City and then finished eighth grade near Center Point, where her folks moved in 1926. She graduated from Troy Mills High School in 1937 and later attended Iowa State Teachers College. She earned her B.A. in teaching from Marycrest College in Davenport. She taught rural school in Linn County for five years and then was employed with the Rock Island Arsenal. She then taught in Pleasant Valley for 18 years, Cody Elementary School in LeClaire for two years and 15 years at Grant Wood Elementary in Bettendorf.
Marjorie was a member of the Retired Teachers and had belonged to the Friendship Force unit of the Quad-Cities. She was a member of the Moline/Rock Island Bowling Association for more than 25 years and had attended National Bowling tournaments all over the country.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing in Minnesota and camping in Bagley, Wis. She was a fan of the Chicago Cubs.
Those left to honor her memory include her sister, Phyllis (Howard) Ciha of Lisbon; her brothers, Claire Bowers of Center Point and Ralph (Nonie) Bowers of Martelle; her sister-in-law, Thelma Bowers of Pleasant Valley; and many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Russel in 1977, Paul in 2007 and Dean in 2014; her sister-in-law, Bernice Bowers; her life companion, Arlene "Sis" Krambeck; close friend, Gen Peterson; and her dog, Tweety.
Marjorie wanted to express special thanks to her caregiver, Thelma Bowers, all her bowling friends over the years, all of her nieces and nephews, her surviving siblings, and to her other good friends.
