Marjorie Kathryne Stoll Bowers was born a few minutes before midnight on Dec. 17, 1927, just ahead of her twin sister, Marion in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Marion died April 20, 2014. They both took great pride in telling the story that they were twins with different birth dates. Their parents were Raymond and Eva Turley Stoll who preceded them in death.
One of her first jobs she worked was at Turner Microphone and a rubber ball/paddle factory. She enjoyed telling the story about putting the string into the ball and painting them red. Marjorie volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital over 32 years delivering flowers to the patients. She loved to knit and crochet. Over the years she has given a lot of babies their first handmade blankets.
Marjorie married Charles F. Bowers on Oct. 18, 1947, by the justice of the peace in Cedar Rapids. Charles passed away on Aug. 17, 1998. Also deceased are her seven siblings, Maxine (Glenn) Irvin, Esther (Floyd) Peterson, Arlene (Richard) Shields, Marion (Robert) Umbdenstock, Norman "Bud" (Peg) Stoll and Raymond "Jr." (Linda) Stoll; and her sisters-in-law, Betty E. Bowers and Thea Bowers Gorman.
She is survived by two children, Mike (Betty) Bowers of Central City and Diane Tyne of Cedar Rapids; former son-in-law, Don Tyne of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jenifer (Mike) Hall, Sarah (Derek) Wheeler, Jody Bowers (Brent Fountain), Dan Tyne and Bill (Danielle) Tyne; eight great-grandchildren, Michael, John, Sam Hall, Jordan and Creighton Wheeler, Amaya Tyne and Aiden Greene and Skyler Tyne; a brother-in-law, Robert Hamer of Texas; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Hospice.
