Center Point
Marion J. Vaupel, 91, of Center Point, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa, with his family close by. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at St. John Lutheran Church, 1115 Water St., Center Point. Funeral service will follow at the church with the Rev. Thomas Van Hemert officiating. Burial with military rites will take place at Urbana Memorial Cemetery in Urbana, Iowa.
Marion was born Aug. 21, 1930, the son of Alfred and Dorothea (Merchant) Vaupel. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1951-53. Marion was united in marriage to Judith Wheeler on April 20, 1956.
Marion is survived by his wife of 66 years, Judith; two sons, Arnold (Nora) and John, of Tempe, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Cory (Sharon), Dustin (Jennifer), Shayla, Sam and Grace; five great-grandchildren, Sylvia, Cooper, Scarlett, AJ and Karl; sister, Nadine Heiserman; brother, Conrad Vaupel; and his two cats, Tiger and Callie.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Alfred and Dorothea Vaupel; and sister, Doris Ann Bagby.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Lutheran Church in honor of its 75th anniversary this year. St. John's had its start in the community by Marion's grandparents, Karl and Katarina Vaupel.
