Marion F. Urban, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at Hallmar in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, with a visitation beginning an hour before, at St. Pius X
Catholic Church. Father Phil Thompson will be presiding. Cedar Memorial is assisting the family.
Marion Francis Erger Kraft Urban was born Jan. 10, 1923, to Bernard Erger and Lauretta Schulte in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to Robert Kraft on Nov. 25, 1941, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked as a waitress in the Terrace Room at the Cedar Rapids Airport and Tony's Steak House. She then worked in the office of McGladrey, Hansen and Dunn.
She and Robert retired to the Mission/McAllen area in Texas in the mid-1970s where they took up golf. They also enjoyed dances and working in a citrus orchard. Robert died in 1991.
Marion was then united in marriage to Reginald Urban on March 30, 1993. They enjoyed traveling and went as far as Alaska. They moved to Arkansas, where Reggie died in 2005. Marion moved back to Iowa that year.
Marion played the accordion and keyboards in a few informal bands and loved dancing and traveling. She was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and the Hawkeyes.
She loved being with her family.
She is survived by her children, Renie (Gary) Miller of Toddville, Douglas Kraft of Cedar Rapids, Michael of Manchester and Lori (Darrell) French of Robins; step-children, Laura Urban (Lilly Herring) of Brandon, Minn., Rene Reinhard (Jim) of Greenfield, Wis., and Chris Urban (Bonnie) of Urbana; 15 grand-children; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ione (Leonard) Schultz of Clarksville, Ga.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Erger of Cedar Rapids; and special niece, Ann Erger of Marion.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dennis; sister, Benita (Janie) Simkavitz; brother-in-law, Joseph Simkavitz; and two great- grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the loving staff at Hallmar Care Center for the wonderful care and support they gave her and the family. They made her short stay there so enjoyable. Also, the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their care.
