Marion H. Schminke, 90, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022, in a vehicle accident, near Vinton.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at New Covenant Bible Church (3090 N. Center Point Rd.) in Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Jay Haugh officiating. Private family interment will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Shellsburg, prior to the service.
Marion was born on Sept. 24, 1931, to Edmund and Jessie (Tyler) Schminke near Newhall. He graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1949 and was united in marriage to Jeannine Hagen on June 15, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton.
Marion will be remembered for his deep faith, love for family, relentless curiosity and his ability to make a genuine connection with others.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannine of Shellsburg; children, Brian (Denise) Schminke of Shellsburg and their children, Mitch (Nicole) Schminke and their daughter, Grace; Matt (Liz) Schminke and their children, Tayton, Owen, and Kasen; Shawn (Morgan) Schminke; Brett (Sonia) Schminke of Shellsburg and their children, Olivia and Ian Schminke; Brandy (John) Olsen of Chicago and their daughter, Ingrid Olsen; sister, Ida Mae Tompkin of St. Louis; and sister-in-law, Inge Schminke of Shellsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Oliver Schminke; and sister, Doris Boyer.
