Marion Conner, 80, was born on Sept. 27, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa, and passed away on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, in a car accident near Millersburg on his way home from a weekend of camping and fishing.
Marion enjoyed spending time with family, socializing, hunting, camping and fishing, as well as building, remodeling and repairing homes. He attended Millersburg High School and met his wife of 61 years, Shirley, while roller skating in Millersburg. He lived in Millersburg for 55 years and was a longtime city council member. Marion was a fire fighter, a member of the Iowa County Landfill board of directors, a long haul truck owner/operator and retired as a carpenter. He was the son of Marion Conner Sr. and Irene Whitmore.
He is survived by five children, Catherine (Conner Lown) Durbin (Gary), Roseville, Calif.; Sharon (Conner) Widmer (Neil), Deep River; John Conner (Jean), Tiffin; Susan (Conner) Voss (Bob), North English; and Beth (Conner) Strasser, Homestead; and nephew, Mark Ralston (Michelle), Palo.
He had 14 grandchildren, Brian Lown, Kelly (Winegarden) Hall, Luke Winegarden, Jamie (Lown) Young, Tyler Winegarden, Anne Winegarden, Lynston (Blain) Hummer, Luke Gregory, Daniel Conner, Clayton Voss, Camie Widmer, Dillon Conner, Nick Strasser and Allison Voss; as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents; daughter-in-law, Penny (Davis) Conner; and son-in-law, Roger Lown.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Lake Iowa Nature Center, near Millersburg. Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Service of North English is in charge of arrangements.
