Marilyn was born July 20, 1943, to Robert "Roy" Turner and Selma (Swanson) Turner. She graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee, Iowa in 1962. Marilyn graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in Art in February of 1966. Later that year, Marilyn married Darell Gene Truitt at St. Thomas Moore in Iowa City.
Marilyn taught Art in the Iowa Schools for many years. She was a very creative person (a trait she passed on to her children and grandchildren) and enjoyed many different art forms. She excelled at drawing and painting.
She was devoted to her family, much like her husband, Darrell. She was always in attendance to her grandchildren's events. Marilyn was always the most caring and supportive to friends and family, as well as to her students. She always had a smile and kind word to share.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Gary) Harney, her son Robert "Casey" (Angela) Truitt, and her grandchildren, Leah Harney, Tessa Harney, Joseph Harney, Jarrett Truitt, Kaylee Truitt, and Logan Truitt.
Sadly, Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Darell, her brothers Stephen (Barbara) Turner, and Donald Turner, and her parents, Roy and Selma.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in support of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Fund to the University of Iowa Center for Advancement, and to the Iowa City School District in support of Art programs.
