Marilyn Scott, 84, of Cedar Rapids died on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at St. Jude Catholic Church by Rev. Nick March. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A Vigil Service will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not wishing to attend vigil service, may visit with the family on Monday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Marilyn is survived by her six children, Marsha (Paul) Sabotta, Brian (Karen) Scott, Brad (Jean) Scott, Michael (Susan) Scott, all of Cedar Rapids, Jenine (Mark) Anderson of Eden Prairie, MN and Karen (Mark) Harapat of Ely; 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and two on the way; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Eleanor Heskje and Mary Smith; and brothers, James and Richard Heskje.
Marilyn was born on April 10, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, to Thelman and Anna Gatens Heskje. She graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1959. On August 25, 1962, Marilyn married Robert Scott at St. Patrick Catholic Church, and the couple later divorced. Throughout most of her life, she had an in-home daycare and also worked at Randall Foods in the bakery. Marilyn was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Marilyn loved gardening, being out in the sun, and indulging in sweets. She enjoyed going out to see a show and watching romantic movies on the Hallmark channel. Marilyn was known for her warm hospitality and always made her home a cozy place for everyone. When her children were younger, their friends loved spending time at her house. She cherished moments with her grandchildren, and her infectious laugh and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
