Marilyn Schmidt, 91, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon, Lisbon.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at the Springville Cemetery, Springville. The Rev. Rodney Bluml will

Marilyn Eliza Folken was born June 22, 1931, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of John and Margaret (Albers) Folken. She attended school in Monticello and graduated from Monticello High School in the Class of 1949. She married Kenneth Schmidt on Sept. 18, 1954, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He died in 1996.

She was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa. She was an excellent seamstress who often made and mended clothing for her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading mysteries and working jigsaw puzzles and all kinds of puzzle books. In spare time she watched Law & Order. She will be remembered as a loving, caring, funny, accepting person who always helped, many times behind the scene.

Those remembering her are her children, Cindy Wittenburg, Doug (Linda) Schmidt, Pam (Pat) Taylor and Carri (Ernie Freese) Bieber; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; her sister, Delores Ihlenfeldt; sisters-in-law, Rosie Folken, Jean Schmidt and Alberta Willey; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Wittenburg; her parents; and her brothers, Henry, Edward, Louis and Donald.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon for the wonderful care they provided.
