Cedar Rapids
Marilyn Jean Posekany,
81, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Private family Celebration of Life services will be held at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery.
Marilyn was born May 26, 1939, in rural Belle Plaine, the daughter of William and Frances (Charvat) Upah. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School, Class of 1957. Marilyn was united in marriage to Darrell J. Posekany on Dec. 27, 1958, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. They made their home in Cedar Rapids. She worked over the years for Armstrong's, Modern Business Systems (IKON) and Cedar Memorial West. Marilyn loved watching birds, especially enjoying cardinals "red birds," all types of flowers, the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and any sporting or fine arts events her kids and grandkids were in. Marilyn treasured special trips to South Dakota, Colorado, Branson and Ohio with her beloved kids and grandkids. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Darrell; daughter, Cindy (Randy) Dee; and son, David (Liz) Posekany, both of Cedar Rapids. Marilyn's joys were her grandchildren, Rachel (Matt) Bailey, Jacob (Margaret) Dee, Jordan (Paige Salmon) Dee, Lindsey Posekany and Dawson Posekany; and great-granddaughters, Joy and Hazel Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Frank (Eunice) Upah, Edward Upah and Elsie Elaine Upah.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Pope and staff as well as Hospice of Mercy for their loving care of Marilyn.
