Marilyn J. Miner, 86, of Sumner, died Friday, June 8, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
An open house celebration honoring Marilyn will be held at Meadowbrook Country Club in Sumner on Sunday, June 17, 2018, from 2 to 6 p.m. with a balloon release at 5 p.m. Private family inurnment will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sumner. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Marilyn Joan, daughter of Dale and Norma Drewis Schrader, was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Sumner, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner and graduated from Sumner High School in 1949. On May 20, 1961, she was united in marriage with Duane "Dewey" Miner at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. A lifelong resident of Sumner, Marilyn had worked in the office at Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo and did bookkeeping at E&M Lumber Co. in Sumner. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner and had been a member of the C.M.H. Auxiliary and P.E.O.
Marilyn is survived by one son, Greg (Karen) Miner of Jefferson, S.D.; one daughter, Keri Burian of Hiawatha; three grandchildren, Brittany (Dustin) Sharkey, Bailey (Steven) Miller and Jensen Burian; five great-grandchildren, MaKayla and Madison Miller and Hunter, Kayla and Jackson Sharkey; one brother, Robert (Kathy) Schrader of Sumner; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald (Gladys) Miner of Ankeny, Gerald (Carol) Miner of Waverly, Shirley (Chuck) Hegseth of Waucoma and Donna (Jerry) Amfahr of Jesup; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey, who died June 5, 2005; her parents; a sister, Marjorie Webster; a brother, Clinton Schrader; four brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
