MARILYN "KAY" MCFARLAND
Solon
Marilyn "Kay" McFarland, 79, of Solon, passed away with family by her side on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Mercy Iowa City. Celebration of Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Solon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Keele Kober officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at
the church. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon is caring for Kay's service.
Marilyn was born June 16, 1938, in Hutchinson, Kan., the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Arkle) Hill. She graduated from Burlington High School, Class of 1956. She earned a B.S. degree in nursing from the University of Iowa in 1960, as well as a master's in biblical studies in 1990 from Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque. Kay was united in marriage to John McFarland on April 6, 1963, in Burlington.
Kay is survived by her husband, John; her daughters, Karen (Ken) Miller, Natalie (Tim) Kral and Connie McFarland; grandchildren, Aj, Riese, Cade, Allison, Jeni and Joe; her brother, John R. Hill of Columbia, S.C.; as well as her nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Solon United Methodist Church Choir in her name.
