Marilyn Anne Madsen, 86, died peacefully Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the Solon Care Center. A memorial service will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Rapids Sokol Gymnastics Association, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.
Marilyn was born June 6, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Sam Frasinger and Georgia Edwards Umphrey. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. On July 21, 1973, Marilyn married Murl Madsen in Marengo.
Marilyn was a longtime Cedar Rapids resident, where she had been bookkeeper at Hupp Electric Motors and Moorman Equipment Co. She worked for Video West in Arizona. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Sokol Gymnastics organization, where she served in many roles. She was a longtime member of the Women's City Bowling League in Cedar Rapids.
Marilyn moved to Mesa, Ariz., 30 years ago, returning to Iowa City last year.
Marilyn is survived by her loving daughters, Connie Smith of Mesa and Pam (Mike) Hoogerwerf of Iowa City; and four grandchildren, Whitney, Trent, Justin and Hayley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Earl Umphrey; her husband; her son, Craig Ritchie; and her sister, Vivian Dunlap.
