Beloved mother, Marilyn J. Carter passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 13, 2024, in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Marilyn was born October 18, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, IA to Edward and Angeline Johns. She graduated from Cedar Rapids, St. Patrick Catholic High School in 1954. Marilyn married Donald L. Carter on April 15, 1961, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Donald passed away on November 25, 2019. Marilyn worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone/US West for over 25 years. Marilyn and Donald raised their two daughters as active members, for many years, with Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
Marilyn and Donald enjoyed years of family fishing and camping trips around Iowa and vacations throughout the United States. In her sixties, Marilyn visited Europe twice, and also the Caribbean. She enjoyed history, devoured mystery novels and was always up for an adventure or taking in a stray cat. She will be dearly missed.
Marilyn is survived by her children, April (Munir) Pauls of Cedar Rapids and Michelle Carter of St. Paul, MN; Sister-in-Law, LaVonne Carter, of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and close friend of over 40 years, Charlotte Suma of Quebec, Canada.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at Central Church of Christ, 1500 First Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Church of Christ.
