MARILYN "LYNN" J. HYNES
Cedar Rapids
Marilyn "Lynn" J. Hynes, 84, passed late Monday, March 6, 2017, at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain Hospice, Marietta, Ga., after an extended illness.
Funeral Mass is at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, by Father Don Klein. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a vigil service begins at 4 p.m.
Surviving Lynn are her husband, Jim, of 63 years; daughter, Mary Danielak, spouse Mike, and children, Matt, Nick and Zack; and her son, Mike Hynes, spouse Stacy, and children, Ally, Jack, Rachel and Brandon, all of the Atlanta area.
She passed on to see her parents Albert and Ella Mae; and siblings, Ervin, Ray, Lester, Melvin, Harold, Herbie, Sonny, Verna, Ruth, Lucille and Mae.
Born in Monee, Ill., on Oct. 24, 1932, she grew up on a farm and then moved to town. She was introduced to Jim in 1946 by her best friend, Jackie Hynes, Jim's sister. She started "going steady" with Jim in 1949 while attending Crete-Monee High School in Crete, Ill. They enjoyed dancing and singing together while there.
They were married in 1953 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Chicago Heights, Ill., then moved to student married housing at Purdue University. She worked at the Arnett Clinic as a medical secretary and put Jim through his last two years at Purdue. After Jim's graduation, they went to Fort Wayne, Ind., then the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Okla., and Fort Lewis, Wash., where Mary was born in 1957. After the discharge from the Army, they moved to Bettendorf, Iowa, where Mike was born in 1961. An engineering opportunity brought them to Cedar Rapids in 1963 and they have lived on Regent Street for 53 years.
Lynn became very busy raising the kids, playing bridge, golfing with the Grasshoppers, bowling and volunteering at St. Pius X. The spring break visits to Florida mushroomed into winter vacations after retirement. She was a devoted "Friend of Bill" and in
the Fellowship Club for 34 years.
Seeing the need to get closer to the kids and her grandkids, they moved from Cedar Rapids last November to Atlanta.
Her "million dollar" smile will be missed by all.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Fellowship Club, 3224 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402 or your favorite charity. No flowers please.
