Marilyn T. Hoyt, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brad Brown. Friends may visit with the family Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and Tuesday after 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Marv; two sons, Craig (Amy) and Chad (Angie), both of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Cole, Kenzie, Alex and Bryce; mother, Frances Kelly of Van Horne; sister, Ilene (David) Loutsch of Vinton; brother, Gary Kelly of Van Horne; sister-in-law, LaVonne (Mike) Houser of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Darrel (Carol) Hoyt of Elberon; foreign exchange student, Carlos Garcia; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Laverne, and grandmother, Irene Kelly.
Marilyn Theresa was born Aug. 3, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Laverne and Frances (Zimpfer) Kelly. She married Marvin Dean Hoyt on Nov. 22, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Marilyn worked in food service for the Cedar Rapids School District for 28½ years, retiring in 2011.
She also was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church for 35 years.
Marilyn enjoyed spending time volunteering in the Cedar Rapids Schools. She also made silk flowers, crafted ceramics, loved traveling and camping with her family, swimming, and was a great cook. Her favorite travels were the ones when she got to see lighthouses.
Memorials may be directed to the family which will then go towards Mesothelioma research.
