Marilyn Helen Hekel, 65, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Shellsburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Brosh Chapel. Private family inurnment will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Marilyn was born July 10, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of George and Shirley (Weist) Glasbrenner. She graduated from Shellsburg High School. Marilyn worked at Amana Refrigeration for nearly 47 years. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, going to casinos, especially Las Vegas, and spending time with her family.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Dan (Rhonda) Hekel, Derek (Sarah) Hekel and Dustin Hekel; grandchildren, Tyler, Nathan, Brenden, Caitlin and Morgan; her longtime companion of over 37 years, Jerry Driscoll; and siblings, Connie Engledow, Rita Swanton, Sue Gipson, Carol Cox, Jerry Glasbrenner and David Glasbrenner.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Mike Ritter.
