Marilyn Joan Fett, 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at Mercy Hallmar. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 28, at Brosh Chapel, 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids.
Joan was born Aug. 15, 1935, in Jefferson Township, Minn., the daughter of Matt and Marion (Moore) Freilinger. She grew up in Monona, Iowa, and graduated from MFL High School. She married Gary Fett on Jan. 29, 1955, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. They moved to Cedar Rapids in the early 1960s.
Joan was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church for over 40 years.
Joan was a stay-at-home mom, all about faith and family.
Joan is survived by her children, Mark (Rosanne) Fett of Lavon, Texas, Greg (Janie) of Winchester, Ky., Lisa (Gary) Wade of Cedar Rapids and Lynn Fett of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren, Annette, Amy, Jessica, Brian, Craig, Scott, Nathan and Stephanie; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Keith (Jackie) Freilinger and Lloyd (Nancy) Freilinger; sisters, Lorraine (Lyle) Mackey, Rosie (Tom) Stepanek, Kathy (Johnnie) Knight and Mary (Dave) Setterholm; sister-in-law, June Freilinger; brother-in-law, Lee Palas; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary (1986); son, Joseph; parents; brothers, Rod and Karl Pat; and a sister, Donna Palas.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Hallmar Care Center and Hospice of Mercy for taking great care of our mom.
