Marilyn L. Bowman, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment in the Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum Columbarium. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Survivors include her two sons, Matt of Kemah, Texas, and Scott of the Colony, Texas; and two sisters, Judith Sauerteig of Denver, Colo., and Thelma Briggs of Des Moines. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Nathan, Marissa, Jackson and Jane Bowman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Marilyn was born Dec. 31, 1937, in Des Moines, the daughter of Clifford and Irene Priest Thomas. She graduated from high school in Knoxville and later graduated from the University of Iowa.
Marilyn married Durwood V. "Woody" Bowman on June 19, 1960, in Knoxville. Woody passed away in 1998. She was a speech therapist for the Cedar Rapids community schools and retired from there after 24 years of service.
Marilyn was a member of the Friends of the Zoo, the Cedar Rapids Art Museum, friends of the library and volunteered at the nature center.
Marilyn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
