Marilyn Margaret Blakley, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Deborah Greene of Lowden, Randall (Diane) Blakley of Urbana, Johnny (Catherine) Blakley of Hot Springs, Ark., Jacob Blakley Jr. of Center Point, Danny (Johnathan) Blakley of Hot Springs, Melanie Hatcher of Hot Springs, Nicky (Jinny) Blakley of Indianapolis, Warran (Jodi) Blakley of Cedar Rapids and Martin (Debbie) Blakley of Vinton; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special nephew, Walter Draper of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Jackie; and brother, Roland.
Marilyn was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Nebraska, the daughter of Rodney and Isabelle Petersen. In 1951, she married Jacob Blakley. Marilyn enjoyed country and bluegrass music and her outdoor activities included fishing and gardening. She was very crafty and liked quilting. Marilyn always was a huge dog lover who kept busy multi-tasking. She was known as "Mother of Palo." She had a diverse work history which included lunch cook, seamstress, nursing homes and uniform business to name a few.
