Marilyn Jean Atwater, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Northbrook Manor, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Marion's Thomas Park State Room facility, 343 Marion Blvd. Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2018, at the Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett, Iowa. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, Iowa.
Marilyn was born April 23, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Juanita Stephan. She graduated from Mason City High School and attended Mason City Junior College. Marilyn was united in marriage to Lloyd Wayne Atwater on March 28, 1970, in Marion, Iowa. She was a housewife for many years before working at Fleetway and retiring from Casey's General Store.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Angela (Mike) Lyness of Cedar Rapids; son, George (Alexis) Atwater of Marion; brother, Charles Stephan of Carlsbad, Texas; sister, Marianne (Victor) Stephan of Martelle; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Nate) Yeisley, Asher Atwater, Megan Lyness and Alex Lyness; great-grandson, Isaac; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon (Gary) Knapp, Vern (Nancy) Atwater, Sue Kelly and Larry (Sue) Atwater; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; parents, Edward and Juanita Stephan; and in-laws, George and Esther Atwater.
