Marilyn was born July 6, 1947, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Madeline (Bills) Wheelock. She grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School. After graduation, she moved to Cedar Rapids and began her career at Mercy Medical Center at age 18. On February 8, 1969, Marilyn was united in marriage to Larry Schulte in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Marilyn was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was passionate about the Iowa Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs. She enjoyed Hallmark movies, gardening, tending to flowers, animals, reading, and holiday decorations. She loved watching and attending NASCAR races and spending February in Daytona with her racing family. Some of her fondest memories were camping with family and friends at Lake Delhi. Her biggest joy was her children and grandchildren. She loved attending their sports events, band concerts, and hosting grandma sleepovers. She adored making people happy, and if it made you smile, it was now yours, whether we were out shopping, noticing something in her home, or playing board games. She was always available to listen to her kids rant or celebrate their successes. She was the definition of supportive and selflessness.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Larry Schulte, her daughters Suzanne (Dennis) Barloon of Oxford, Iowa, Lori French of Marion, Iowa, and son Michael (Tara) Schulte of Ankeny, Iowa, seven grandchildren, Megan, Alex, and Sarah Barloon, Connor French, and Maddie, Kaden, and Jaxon Schulte, and brother David (Toni) Wheelock of Ames, Iowa; brothers-in-law Don (Sharon) Schulte, David Schulte and Steve Schulte; and sister-in-law Karen (Dave) Holze, as well as her nieces and nephews.
