Marika D. "Noni" Peterson, 95, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Christ Community Church in Marion. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service. A private family burial was held at Macedonia Cemetery in Macedonia, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Marika was born on May 19, 1926, in Milan, Italy, the daughter of Luigi and Giuliana (Pescanti) Deho. On Feb. 3, 1955, she was united in marriage to Norman F. Peterson in Milan. She worked as a secretary in Italy prior to marriage. Norman and Marika moved to the United States in 1957. She worked in food service at Linn-Mar High School. Marika was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, spending time with family and friends and her time at Milestones, Marion. Marika will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marika is survived and lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Giuliana Peterson of Moss Beach, Calif., Patrizia "Patsy" (Paul) Bettenga of Hiawatha and Deborah (Doug) Gire of Marion; five grandchildren, Desiree (Rusty) Bowers, Westley (Megan) Carney, Samuel (Piper) Gire, Shawna (Aaron) Guy and Hannah Gire; 14 great-grandchildren; adopted daughter and caregiver, Carrie Sarchett of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman, in 1977; and sister and brother-in-law, Nuccia and Doriano Billet.
