Marie E. Schmeichel, 105, of Iowa City, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with a time of visitation beginning at 3 p.m. Family entombment will take place later at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials in Marie's name can be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America or a charity of your choice.

Marie E. Snyders was born May 16, 1909, in Capa, S.D., the daughter of Jake and Mamie (Sanger) Snyders. She graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Iowa, and received her normal degree from Coe College and attended the Cedar Rapids Business School. She taught a few years of country school and then worked for several years as a secretary in Cedar Rapids and over 50 years as a seamstress in Iowa City.
She was a longtime member of the Iowa City First United Methodist Church, an avid Chicago Cubs fan, a formidable bridge player, an incredible seamstress and one with a huge heart who gave much of her time volunteering at Oaknoll and the senior center.
Her family includes her daughters, Ann Farland (Marv) of Coralville and Linda Clausen of Crawfordsville; grandchildren, Molly Byers (Rik), Michele Watkins (Gareth) and MarieAnn Clausen (Tony); and great-grandchildren, Hannah, Zeb, Madison, Aiden, Hunter, Logan, Austin, Connor and Parker.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Freda Hogue; two stillborn sons; and son-in-law, Vic.
