MARIE FISHER
Olin
Marie Margaret Fisher, 97, was born in Olin, Iowa, on Feb. 5, 1917, to Mable (Pegorick) and Claus Hansen. She passed away March 13, 2014, at Silvercrest in Anamosa. Funeral services for Marie will be held at the Stanwood Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 18. Burial will be in Olin Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 17, at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin.
Marie graduated from Olin High School in 1934. Marie lived on her parents' farm north of Olin, until she married Eldon Burris Fisher on Feb. 26, 1941. The couple farmed in Olin for a few years before farming for 16 years in Clarence. During this time two children, Trudy and Terry, were born. The family then farmed south of Olin, east of Mechanicsville and finally west of Stanwood.
Marie was a dedicated housewife, farming alongside her husband, and a wonderful mother.
After moving to Stanwood (where she resided for 43 years), Marie also worked outside the home as the accountant/
bookkeeper at agricultural plants Cyanimid in Stanwood, ProGro in Mechanicsville and later in Morely. Marie also worked at Ropa's Grocery, the Stanwood Bank, the Cedar County Courthouse, Skelgas and Ditto's Restaurant.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1987; her
brother Johnnie (Pauline) Hansen; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; two nephews; one niece; and one grandniece.
Marie is survived by two children, Trudy Erickson (partner Tom Conrad) of Cedar Rapids and Terry Fisher (Nancy) of Slate Hill, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Chad (Alisha) Erickson, Thad (Cassie) Erickson, Katherine Fisher, Kristina (Joe) Stolzenberg and Brian Fisher; and four great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four nieces, one nephew and grandnephews and nieces.
Marie loved the farm, collecting, flowers, cards, parades and especially shopping and dancing. Most of all, Marie loved being with family and watching their activities. She was a proud member of the Olin Alumnae association, Olin Unity Club, the Stanwood Seniors and Clarence card club.
Marie's children and grandchildren adored her and she will be greatly missed by family and many friends made during her "travels" over an amazing 97 years. She is dancing with the angels.
