Marie E. Fields, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at Northbrook Manor Care Center. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with
Father Chris Podhjasky presiding. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service.
Marie was born July 19, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Stanley and Mary "Mayme" (Blazek) Stastny. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1941. Marie worked at Wilson & Co. until she was united in marriage to Arnold E. Fields on June 14, 1945, at St. Wenceslaus Rectory. She was later employed at Midwest Food Distributors for over 13 years.
Marie and Arnold camped for many years and maintained lifelong relationships with their camping friends. She enjoyed crocheting, plastic canvas, crossword puzzles, playing games on her iPad, and most of all, the time spent with her family and grandkids.
Marie is survived by her children, Janis (Jim) Phillips of Iowa City, Beverly (Gary) Montague of Cedar Rapids and Dewayne (Debbie) Fields of Marion; five grandchildren, Mark (Angela) Phillips and their children, Arys and Dell, Ryan Phillips, Sara Montague (Robert McFarland) and their children, Colten, Zachary and Casen, Katie Montague (Bill McKenna) and Gina (Matt) Anderson and their son, Jackson; and a sister-in-law, Rita Fields of Cedar Rapids.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Thomas Fields, in 1979; her siblings, Stanley J. Edward and Charles Stastny; and an infant brother, Wesley.
Memorials may be directed to either Miracles in Motion or to the Alzheimers Association in honor of her husband.
