Marie C. Burgy, 100, of Amana, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, at her home. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy, with the Rev. Gary Sears officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marie is survived by her three sons, Larry Burgy, of Marengo, Dave (Barb) Burgy, of South Amana and Jeff Burgy, of Amana; three grandchildren, Matthew Burgy, of Marengo, Kyle Burgy, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Kirsten (Aaron) Floyd, of Jackson, Mo.; one great-grandchild, Laikyn Floyd; and two sisters, Ramona Hoppe, of Homestead and Anita McDonald, of Bettendorf.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Ella Marz; and two sisters, Norma Hess and Dorothy Wedic.
Marie Christina Marz was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Homestead, the daughter of Fritz and Ella (Miller) Marz. She received her education in the Amana Community Schools. She was united in marriage to Irvin Jacob Burgy at the Little Brown Church, in Nashua, on Aug. 25, 1939. Irvin and Marie farmed near South Amana for many years. Marie also worked as a waitress at the Ox Yoke for 20 years. Following their retirement from farming, the couple made their home in Amana.
Marie was a very unselfish person. She enjoyed traveling all over the United States, fishing in Canada and golfing at the Marengo Golf Club. Marie especially enjoyed the Supper Club, with the company of the Danskin’s, Steffen’s and Burgy’s and playing cards. She loved planting flowers, gardening vegetables and canning.
