Marian L. Lee, 91, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Friday, March 11, 2022, with family by her side, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
A time for family and friends to gather to celebrate Marian's life will be held from
4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Private family graveside services will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Marian Louise Cole was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Smithland, Iowa, one of 13 children to Arthur and Cecil (Smothers) Cole. Marian married John F. "Jack or Hump" Lee on April 7, 1955, in Iowa City. In addition to keeping the house, raising their children, supporting her husband in his construction business, Marian had worked for ACT for a time. One of many talents Marian had was this uncanny ability to find 4-leaf clovers! Marian was a life long rock hunter and change finder, she loved to roll dice, play cards and loved the slot machines.
Her family includes her children, John Lee Jr., Kathleen Schnoebelen (Kevin), Colleen Ackerman, Richard Lee (Kay), Peter Lee (Deb), Caroline Lee, Mary Kay Lee, Pat Madden, Larry Madden, Ron Madden and Paula Menard (Thomas); grandchildren, Jodi Petersen, John Lee III, Jake Lee, Jenny Lee, Amanda Lee, Kurt Schnoebelen, Kyle Schnoebelen, Kory Schnoebelen, Josh Ackerman, Jerry Ackerman, Carrie Ackerman, Barbara Corpman, Gregory Owens and Marti Moehle; many great-grandchildren, special sister-in-laws, Sandy Cole and Elaine Cole; and many nieces and nephews who she deeply loved and she was loved by them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Abbigail Lee-Price; and siblings, Betty, Marie, Arlene, Howard, Herbie, Richard, Floyd, Billy, Leroy, Robert, Darrell and Donald.
