MARIAN GUDENKAUF

Marian Gudenkauf, 81, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018. Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, with a vigil service at 2 p.m. Additional visitation begins at 9 a.m., with rosary by Catholic Daughters at 10 a.m. at the church. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, conducted by the Rev. Gabriel Anderson. Burial: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Marian was born Oct. 9, 1936, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Florence (Biehl) Haennig. Marian attended and graduated from Manchester High School with the class of 1954. She attended Mercy School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids, graduating with the class of 1957. In 1975, she was employed for 21 years at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Manchester, as a staff nurse and in supervision. She was employed two years at Good Neighbor Home, Manchester. Marian then was employed for 13 years with the State of Iowa, Department of Human Services, Nurse Supervisor I position. She retired from this employment in December of 1998. Marian's nursing career included tenure of 36 years.
Marian was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Altar and Rosary Society, Our Lady of Fatima Study Club, Delaware County Retired Nurses, Busy Bee Club, Iowa Nurse Association and Mount Mercy University Alumnae Association.
Marian was united in marriage to Lester John Gudenkauf at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Masonville, on June 30, 1959, by the Rev. Michael J. O'Sullivan. Survivors include six children, Michael (Mary Lou Schaul) Gudenkauf of Masonville, James (Robin Huls) Gudenkauf of Manchester, Mark (Carrie Smith) Gudenkauf of Independence, Mary Beth (Kevin) Offerman of Manchester, Joan (Greg) Deutmeyer of Edgewood and Janet (Michael) Philipp of Manchester; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Laverne Vaske of Marion, Gerald (Ann) Gudenkauf of Manchester, Raymond (Sally) Gudenkauf of Ryan, Judy (Dennis) Gudenkauf of Manchester, Elmer "Jerry" (Dianne) Gudenkauf of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mary Ann (Edward) Schulte of Manchester, Grace Pruss of Marion and Alice (Lawrence) Sperfslage of Strawberry Point.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; parents, Leo and Florence Haennig; a grandson, Chris Gudenkauf; a sister, Frances Joan Vaske; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; and two nephews.
