Maria Jesus (Susie) Saldana, 95, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at her home. Funeral Mass: 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call
at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to
8 p.m. on Friday, where a rosary will be recited at
5 p.m.
Survivors include her children, Arthur (Joyce) of Oswego, Ill., Becky (Dan) Deal of Cedar Rapids, Paul (Donna Boggs) of Cedar Rapids, Margaret Riha of Belle Plaine and Jeannie Saldana Shears of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Imelda Munoz, Edelmira Martinez, Luz Maria Gervasio and Ofelia Vinas; three brothers, Salvador, Silvestre and Raul Bustos; her grandchildren, James (Ainur), Douglas, Regina (Eugene) Amber, Steven (Stephanie) Summer, Erin (Braxton), Justin (Rachel), Eric, Dennis (Krystal), Ian (Jacolyn) and Adam; great-grandchildren, Theresa (Matt), Olivia, Chloe, Alexis, Noah, Sofia, Ashton, Austin, Leila, Kate, Patrick, Kai, Elijah, Elaina, William, Winsley, and one due in June; and special family members, Regina Saldana, Antonia, Jasmine, Luis, Barry, Kassi, and her goddaughter Christina Saldana. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and two sisters.
Maria was born on Feb. 1, 1923, in Mexico, the daughter of Esteban and Maria Luz Perez Bustos. She married Edward Saldana on Dec. 29, 1946, in Mexico. Edward passed away in 2004. Maria worked in housekeeping at Coe College for over 17 years.
Maria was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was renowned for her cooking. She and Edward enjoyed traveling and took annual trips to visit family and friends in Mexico. Maria forever will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and sexy mama, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
