Maria Nicole Brooks was granted her angel wings on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015. She was only 8, but touched many people, and was loved by countless. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Brother Rich Toomsen. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her parents, Ben and Jada Cairy of Hiawatha and Zachary Quarterman of Davenport; sister, Ella Cairy; great-grandmother, Jan Brooks of Hiawatha; grandmother, Trinda Brooks of Atlanta, Ga.; uncles, Jon Brooks of Cedar Rapids and Anthony (Tony) Brooks; aunts, Alicia Brooks of Marietta, Ga., and Candace Johnson of Cedar Rapids; cousins, Nathan Brooks and Nicholas Brooks; special friend, John Baumann; and many other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Eugene Brooks; grandmother, Annette France; great-grandparents, Al and Irene Quarterman; and her great-great-grandmother, Anna Brooks.
Maria was born June 21, 2007, in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter of Jada (Brooks) Cairy and Zachary Quarterman. She attended pre-school at Monroe, with her teachers, Courtney Hoffman, Megan Vance, Amy Reisen and Teresa O'Conner. Maria continued her education at Truman Elementary, Cedar Rapids, with her teachers, Lisa Suszko, Susan L., Susan H. and Marty Dailey. She always enjoyed seeing all her teachers and friends at school.
Maria loved bubbles, music and watching other children playing. She had a very strong bond with her sister. Maria and Ella were inseparable; Ella looked up to her big sister and loved helping take care of her.
She will be greatly missed by all of the friends and family whom she touched.
