Marshall Wayne Wade, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday evening, Oct. 1, 2017, at his daughter's home in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Silver Creek United Methodist Church, rural Masonville, with the Rev. Susan Higdon officiating. Burial will follow in the Silver Creek Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW and after 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Marshall is survived by his children, Karen (Doug) Wade, Cedar Rapids, and Shawn (Ann) Wade, Keystone; grandchildren, Curtis (Danielle) Wade and Keely (Nick) Wade, all of Cedar Rapids, and Jarrod Wade, Danny Wade and Alyssa Wade, all of Keystone; eight great-grandchildren; and brothers, R.G. Goos, Manchester, and Alvin (Mary) Goos, rural Masonville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; father, Wayne R. Wade; mother and stepfather, Lavina (Ammeter) Wade Goos and Arthur Goos; brother, Bryce Goos; granddaughter, Cara Marie Wade; and three feline companions, Callie, Coalie and Autumn.
Marshall was born March 11, 1942, in Ryan, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Masonville and graduated from Coggon High School in 1960. He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1961. Marshall married Linda Kay Slaymaker on Dec. 16, 1968 in Cedar Rapids. Linda died Dec. 31, 2005. Marshall was employed as a truck driver at CRST for 34 years until his retirement. Over the years, he also taught truck drivers at Kirkwood Truck Driver Training Center.
Marshall was a Vietnam Air Force veteran, serving from 1963 to 1967, on Okinawa Island, Japan. Marshall was a member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church and the Ryan American Legion Post 692. He was a former member of Teamsters Union Local 238. He enjoyed watching NASCAR on television, was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to go camping. Marshall enjoyed planting and caring for a large garden.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Ryan American Legion Post 692.
A memorial fund has been established.
