Margueritte Junge
Margueritte Junge
Cedar Rapids
Margueritte Joan Flatt Junge of Cedar Rapids passed away Monday June 13, 2022. She was born on March 26, 1930, in Griswold Iowa to Doryl Flatt and Oleva Adams. She certainly did not walk uphill both ways to her one-room school, but she most certainly did take short cuts so she could change out of the clothes her mother required into the ones she wanted to wear. In 1948 Marg graduated Roosevelt High School where she held the esteemed position of drum majorette
College is where she met and married Robert Junge (they later divorced). They moved around Iowa for his career, eventually settling in Cedar Rapids and had three children: Steven (Tris Dows) Junge, Julienne (Jack) Hardin, and Susan Junge. She was a receptionist and secretary before becoming a social worker with Family Service Agency. Retirement seemed dull so she took a temporary position with Lattner Boiler Company that lasted 15 years.
Marg loved condo living and being involved with all the friends who lived nearby. She joined PPO. She attended Westminster Presbyterian Church. She learned to play Mahjong, and played dominos, bridge, and rummy. She always saved one or two days a week to volunteer at the Community Free Clinic and could be counted on to help at Indian Creek Nature Center.
Being re-retired gave her time to finally discover the world. From camels in Egypt, cross country skiing and hiking in Aspen, water skiing at age 70, red motorcycles, red bicycles, diving in the Red Sea she always said "sure, I'll go." She loved the beaches of Florida, California, Alaska, New Jersey, Hawaii, Melbourne Beach, New Orleans, Chicago, Mexico, Cayman Islands, Egypt, United Kingdom, Canada, and Nova Scotia. Funny thing though, she never really did learn or like to swim.
She seemed not to have a care in the world, and you believed her when she said everything is going to be fine. She loved unconditionally and was loved ten-fold in return. Her grandchildren are Sutherland (Felisha) Junge of Cedar Rapids, Paige Junge of Cedar Rapids, Anna Hardin (Chicago) and extended grandchildren Greg Hardin, Lynne Hardin Kruse (Davenport), and Michelle McGuire(Cedar Rapids). Her immediate great-grandchildren are Ava Isolde Junge, Gisella Junge, and Dekker Junge (Cedar Rapids). Gone before her are her parents, a brother Don Flatt of Marion, ex-husband Robert O Junge, and daughter Susan of Cedar Rapids. She is survived by her sister Rita Timmons of Des Moines along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
Margueritte passed away not because she wanted to but because her little heart couldn't keep up any longer. And it's no wonder. She lived 92 full years, never stopping. Never asking permission. Never thinking she "couldn't." A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Until then please honor Margueritte by donating in her name to the Community Health Free Clinic: https://www.communityhfc.org/donate/. Condolences can be mailed to Steven Junge, PO Box 1527, Cedar Rapids, IA 52406 or Juliennehardin@gmail.com. Our thanks to Mercy Hospice and our nurse Laura who helped us through every step of this transition. Thank you to Krista, Fran, Sandy, Lexie, Leah, Micha and Jada at The CareGivers. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter of Cedar Rapids.
