Marguerite D. Scolaro, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at West Ridge Care Center. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Entombment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Marguerite was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Mascari) Lazio. She was united in marriage to Anthony R. "Bud" Scolaro on July 23, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. Marguerite worked as a line supervisor at Rockwell Collins for 30 years, until her retirement in 1985.
She was a charter member of St. Matthew Catholic Parish and a member of St. Monica Circle. Marguerite enjoyed crafting and showing her crafts at the Rockwell Craft Fair. She loved to watch Iowa basketball games and to spend time with her family.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. As the "official greeter" at West Ridge Care Center, Marguerite will be remembered for her friendly smile and warm demeanor. She was a friend to all, and never knew a stranger.
Marguerite is survived by her daughters, Joanne (Roger) Hasselbrink of Cedar Rapids and Linda O'Brien of Las Vegas, Nev.; two granddaughters, Angie (Torrey) French of Normal, Ill., and Allison (Andrew) Griesel of Peoria, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren, Cayden and Ryland French, Brinkley and Blaire Griesel; sister, Virginia Lazio of Davenport; as well as several nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud, in 2001; brother, Charles Lazio; and sister, Anne Ebeling.
Memorial donations in Marguerite's name may be made to UnityPoint Hospice or the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center at Mercy Medical Center.
