Margie was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Scotch Grove, Iowa, to Emil and Ann Petersen Paulsen. She attended Scotch Grove No. 6 school in her early years and later, Monticello Community Schools.
She married Gene Hanken in 1949 and they farmed together in Scotch Grove for 41 years. After Gene's death in 1990, Margie relocated to Monticello and began the Decorating Workshop with her sewing and design talents. You would always find her sewing, gardening, doing needle work, volunteering and going to her many children and grandchildren's events. She was an unquestioned cornerstone in each of her girl's families.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Raymond) Main, Cindy (Douglas) Dawson and Julie Hanken; grandchildren, Ann, Michael and Jenny, Emily and Tim, and Benjamin and Melissa; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sara Paulsen; and many nieces, nephews and stepchildren.
