MARGERY "MARGE" JANET STANSBERRY

Margery "Marge" Janet Stansberry, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Per her wishes, there will be no services. Private inurnment was held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Marge was born on Jan. 4, 1930, in Clayton County, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Hertha (Ruckdaschel) Thoma. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Marge received her education at Luana Consolidated School, graduating in 1947. She married Leslie Doyle Stansberry on Sept. 18, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born.
Marge worked at Mercy Medical Center for 28-plus years in Cedar Rapids. After her retirement, she and Les settled in Northeast Iowa. Due to health issues and wanting to be closer to family they moved back to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Marge was a member of the Grand Meadow Country Club. A club founded by the former wives of Grand Meadow Township.
Marge enjoyed her flower gardens, house boating on the Mississippi River, and meeting friends for coffee and lunch. She and Les loved vacationing along Lake Superior (North Shore Drive). Marge especially loved all the special times spent with her grandson and family.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Gerald) Seger, Nancy (Jeff) Chittenden and Karen (Bill) Desmarais; one grandson, Colton Desmarais; and loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie; and her siblings, Judith Hahn and Robert Thoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 116 E Military Rd., Postville, IA 52162.
