Margery L. Nees
Margery L. Nees
Marion
Margery (Marge) L. Nees, 86, of Marion, Iowa, died peacefully on Dec. 23, 2021, in North Fort Myers, Fla. She will be buried in a private service at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Margery was born on April 26, 1935, the daughter of Gerald A. Zeran and Edna L. (Diehn) Zeran, in Rockford, Iowa. She was the youngest of four children. Her older siblings included Geraldine Jones (WA), Roger Zeran (CA) and Ruby Witter (CA). She grew up in Rockford and one of her childhood loves was summer roller skating at the rink under the tent in the park. She had dreamed of becoming a nurse or a writer but followed another path. She married Richard D. Marth from rural Rockford in 1953. They settled in Marion where they raised five children: LuAnn (Doug) Hiratzka of Coralville, Iowa, Christopher (Ronda) Marth of Westerville, Ohio, Andrew (Holly) Marth of North Fort Myers, Fla., Julia (Hubert) Reinartz of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Matthew (Mary) Marth of Vienna, Austria. When they lived in rural Marion, she especially loved growing beautiful flowers in her extensive garden and was very proud of her very large strawberry patch. Margery and Richard were later divorced.
Margery married Paul W. Nees of Marion in 1981. They formed a blended family with Margery's children and their families and Paul's children David Nees, Carol Van Waus, Michael Nees, Michelle Hartl and Douglas Nees and their respective families. During this time, Margery continued to enjoy gardening. She was an avid reader and considered the Marion Library her second home. She also loved baking, sewing with beautiful fabrics, and long walks with Paul. She worked as a bookkeeper and also enjoyed volunteering to assist others with their tax preparation.
Margery was very proud of her family and especially enjoyed learning news about her family that were spread all across the country and Europe. She had numerous personal accomplishments in her lifetime. In addition to being a bookkeeper, she earned a real estate license, and also completed a program as a pharmacy technician in later years to name a few. She loved learning and was fascinated with astronomy.
Margery was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Richard; her parents; husband, Paul; and brother. She will be greatly missed.
