She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and became a charter member of First Church of the Nazarene in Burlington. On the college campus, she met and fell in love with Forrest Whitlatch, also an Iowan, and they were married June 1, 1945, at her home church in Burlington. The Whitlatches served at Nazarene pastorates in Shenandoah, Creston, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids and Council Bluffs. They moved to Des Moines in 1970, when he was elected superintendent of the Iowa District Church of the Nazarene. For 17 years, Margaret served as president of the Iowa District Nazarene Missionary Society. Upon her husband's retirement in 1990, the Whitlatches resided in Oskaloosa, then in Pella, and later in Cedar Rapids. Margaret was noted for her faithful support of her husband's ministry and was well-known for her love for people, her kind hospitality, her generous spirit, and love for her husband, children and grandchildren.
